How Long Does Shower Door Installation Take? The Full Timeline

By Direct Shower Door · October 2, 2026 · 6 min read

Once you have decided on a new shower enclosure, the next question is usually “how soon?” The answer has two parts: how long the whole process takes from first call to finished shower, and how long the installation itself takes on the day. The second part is short. The first depends on a few choices you make along the way.

This guide walks through every step, explains what affects the timing, and shows how our 3-Day Rush Service can compress the whole thing into three days when you need it.

The short answer

  • The process has four steps: free quote, in-home measure, fabrication, installation.
  • Fabrication time depends on the glass and hardware you choose. We give you a date with your quote.
  • Every installation is done in one visit.
  • With 3-Day Rush Service, the whole process, quote to installation, can be completed in three days.

Project Timeline

From first call to finished shower

  1. 1

    Free quote

Call or fill in the form (about two minutes). We give you an exact price the same day, often right over the phone.

  2. 2

    In-home measure

Once you are happy with the price, we measure the opening precisely in your home and bring glass and hardware samples so you can confirm your choices.

  3. 3

    Fabrication

Your tempered glass is cut to the measured opening and your hardware is prepared in the finish you chose.

  4. 4

    Installation

Our own crew installs it, and every install is done in one visit.

Standard lead times depend on the glass and hardware chosen. We give you a date with your quote.

Step by Step

1. Free quote

Call 800-715-0031 or fill in the quote form. Tell us the style and your opening, and we give you an exact price the same day, often right over the phone.

2. In-home measure

Once you are happy with the price, we come to your home, measure the opening precisely and bring glass and hardware samples so you can confirm your choices. We confirm your installation date then. Our guide to how our quote and measure work covers this in detail.

3. Fabrication

Every frameless panel is cut to your measured opening, and the edges, hinge cut-outs and handle holes are finished before the glass is tempered. Tempered glass cannot be cut or drilled afterwards, which is why precise measurement comes first. See our tempered glass guide. Your hardware is prepared in the finish you chose at the same time.

4. Installation

Our own crew, never subcontractors, installs the enclosure. On the day, the crew protects the area, fixes the hardware, sets and levels the glass, adjusts the door so it swings and closes cleanly, fits the seals and sweep, and seals the fixed panels. Every install is done in one visit.

What Affects the Timeline

  • Glass type. Specialty glass like low-iron, frosted or tint can take longer than standard clear. See our glass guide.
  • Thickness. 1/2 inch glass and its heavier hardware can affect lead time.
  • Hardware finish. Some finishes are more readily available than others.
  • Complexity. A single door is simpler than a neoangle or a steam enclosure with a transom.
  • Remodel readiness. We measure once the tile is finished. If the tile is not done, the clock has not started. See when to order glass during a remodel.

3-Day Rush Service

Sometimes a shower cannot wait: a house about to go on the market, guests arriving, a remodel running behind, or a bathroom that is the only one in the house. Our 3-Day Rush Service can take you from quote to installed enclosure in three days. Mention it when you book, and we will tell you which options fit within the rush timeline.

Preparing for Installation Day

  • Clear the shower and the floor around it, including bottles, mats and anything on the curb.
  • Clear a path from the door to the bathroom. Frameless glass panels are large and heavy.
  • Keep pets and children away from the work area.
  • Make sure someone is home to let the crew in and see the finished enclosure.

After Installation

The crew will tell you when the shower can be used, since sealant on fixed panels needs time to cure. Then start the habit that keeps glass clear for years: a quick squeegee after each shower. Our care guide has a printable checklist. If a door ever drops or sticks, call us; hinges can be adjusted.

Installation Day, Hour by Hour

  1. Arrival and protection. The crew lays down protection on floors and the tub or curb.
  2. Removal of an old enclosure, if that is part of the job.
  3. Layout. Hardware positions are marked using the measurements from your in-home measure.
  4. Fixing. Hinges, clamps, channel or a slider rail are fixed into the wall and curb.
  5. Setting the glass. Panels are lifted into place, levelled and secured.
  6. Hanging and adjusting the door so it swings or slides smoothly and closes evenly.
  7. Seals and sweep are fitted, and fixed panels are sealed where needed.
  8. Clean-up and walkthrough. The crew cleans the glass, clears the area, and shows you how everything works.

How Long Each Style Usually Takes on the Day

Style Relative install time
Splash panel Shortest
Single hinged door Short
Door and inline panel Moderate
Bypass or frameless slider Moderate
90 degree corner or neoangle Longer
Steam enclosure with transom Longest

Every install is done in one visit. We confirm what to expect for yours at the measure.

Common Causes of Delay, and How to Avoid Them

  • Tile not finished at the measure. Book the measure only when tile and grout are complete.
  • Changing options after ordering. Glass is cut and tempered to order. Decide glass, thickness and finish at the measure.
  • The remodel changes after the measure. If the curb or walls change, the glass may no longer fit.
  • Access. Large panels need a clear route. Tell us about tight stairs or narrow hallways.

Working to a Deadline

Selling your home

A new frameless enclosure is one of the quickest ways to update a bathroom before listing photos. If the listing date is close, ask about 3-Day Rush Service when you book, and choose options that fit the rush timeline.

Guests or a family event

Ask for your quote as early as possible. Standard glass and finishes are usually quickest.

A remodel running late

Have us measure the moment the tile is finished. If the rest of the bathroom is waiting on the glass, Rush Service can close the gap. See when to order glass during a remodel.

Your only shower

If the bathroom with the shower being replaced is the only one in the house, tell us when you book. We will plan the removal and installation to keep the time without a shower as short as possible.

The crew will tell you when, based on the sealant used.

Is 3-Day Rush available everywhere you work?
